I am an Army veteran who, after coping with PTSD, anxiety and depression for many, many years found healing through mindfulness, writing, art, and by sharing my journey with others. I am a mental health advocate, a writer, artist, and wisdom seeker.
As a former army officer and counter terrorism manager with multiple overseas deployments I was diagnosed with complex PTSD, double depression and have suffered from multiple concussions. I discovered that to heal I had to find a new path to meaning in my life. I found that path as an artist, writer and a seeker of deep wisdom from ancient traditions, such as the labyrinth. I have served as the vice-chair of the client advisory council at the Royal Mental Health Centre in Ottawa where I learned the healing power of story telling, of the power of overcoming stigma and fear and sharing my struggles with mental health. I am now a second year MFA student in creative nonfiction writing at the University of Kings College, Halifax.
I explore themes of identity, suffering, transformation and storytelling in healing journeys. I also explore the phenomenon of Post Trauma Growth as a guiding principle to create a new life through art and writing.
I show my art locally and sell through art shows or by appointment. My art has won awards including the Manotick Art Associations 2023 Spring art show Peoples Choice Award.
I offer writing workshops on storytelling in the healing process, healing journeys, writing and post trauma growth.
